The Silk Road followed the sea route from Venice to the ancient city of Byzantium – now Istanbul. It continued through Turkey across the Taurus Mountains and on from here by boat. Even Saint Helena used the Silk Road to the east in the year 325 AD when travelling back to the Vatican in Rome. In Mahmut Seyde across from the mosque you can walk along the original Silk Road and get a sense of how people used to travel these paths for hundreds of years.
